CHRISTMAS BAKE SALES
The Guild at St. Andrew and the Women’s Guild at Sacred Heart are having bake sales this season. At St. Andrew, baked goods (breads and cookies) will be sold after Mass on December 14. At Sacred Heart, plates of Christmas cookies will be sold after Mass on December 21.

El Gremio de St. Andrew y el Gremio de Mujeres en Sacred Heart están celebrando ventas de pasteles esta temporada. DID YOU KNOW? Third Sunday of Advent
Advent is a season of waiting and expectation for Christmas, but the third Sunday is the halfway mark. The Third Sunday of Advent is known as “Gaudete Sunday.” Gaudete means “rejoice!” Gaudete is pronounced: “Gow-day-tay.”
This week's Gospel Reading continues our Advent reflection on the person and message of John the Baptist. Last week we heard John speak about his relationship to the coming Messiah, Jesus. This week, we hear Jesus' message to John the Baptist, now in prison, about the signs of the kingdom found in Jesus' ministry and Jesus' assessment of John's role in the Kingdom of God.
The rose candle is lit on the third Sunday of Advent, and Father wears rose colored vestments. This Sunday is meant to be a time of rejoicing, because the faithful have arrived at the midpoint of Advent, when their preparation is now half over, and they are close to Christmas. The progressive lighting of the candles symbolizes the expectation and hope surrounding our Lord’s first coming into the world and the anticipation of His second coming in great glory.
Rejoice because we know our salvation is near.
¿LO SABÍAS? Tercero domingo de Adviento
El Adviento es una temporada de espera y expectativa para la Navidad, pero el tercer domingo es la mitad del camino. El tercer domingo de Adviento se conoce como "Domingo de Gaudete". Gaudete significa "¡alegraos!" Gaudete se pronuncia: "Gow-day-tay."
La lectura del Evangelio de esta semana continúa nuestra reflexión adventista sobre la persona y el mensaje de Juan el Bautista. La semana pasada escuchamos a Juan hablar sobre su relación con el próximo Mesías, Jesús. Esta semana, escuchamos el mensaje de Jesús a Juan el Bautista, ahora en prisión, sobre las señales del reino que se encuentran en el ministerio de Jesús y la evaluación de Jesús sobre el papel de Juan en el Reino de Dios.
La vela de la rosa se enciende el tercer domingo de Adviento, y el Padre viste vestimentas color rosa. Este domingo está pensado para ser un momento de alegría, porque los fieles han llegado a la mitad del Adviento, cuando su preparación ya está a mitad y están cerca de la Navidad. El encendido progresivo de las velas simboliza la expectativa y la esperanza que rodean la primera venida de nuestro Señor al mundo y la anticipación de su segunda venida en gran gloria.

OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults) meets weekly on Monday evenings live at St. Andrew the Apostle at 6pm.

United Christian Alliance Response https://www.uca-response.org/ This group grew out of Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts and have supported our supply center and food pantry for more than a year now. Founder and Director, Ciara Maynard, says “While any amount is appreciated, I believe that even a small donation can make a significant difference. Just as Jesus fed the 5,000 with five loaves and two fish, we trust that with a modest monthly contribution, we can help those in need.”
Hope For Indigent Persons https://hopeforindigentpersons.com/ is the non-profit started by Father Anthony’s friend, Sister Hilda. Her organization can turn a small donation into a big change for people in Nigeria and other parts of the world experiencing extreme poverty. Sister Hilda was inspired to “do something” after hearing the reports last December of people being trampled to death at food distribution sites in Nigeria. “People, children, were dying while trying to get a bag of rice,” she said.
Valley Hope Foundation https://www.valleyhopefoundation.org/ also started after Hurricane Helene. They have three programs, disaster response, food distribution, and long-term recovery. This group supports our food pantry with donations of produce each week. Sarah Carpenter, secretary and board member, even called me—at home—on Thanksgiving weekend to make sure we were scheduled for a produce pick up this week.
Catholic Charities https://ccdoc.org/ Catholic Charities helps our communities in so many ways. They’ve supported our charitable giving with gift cards and donations of food and goods for our work with the elementary school students.
